Microbiome in the Spotlight

The Microbiome Space: An Overview
Almost daily I get contacted by someone asking about the microbiome space, how it operates, who the keys players are, what challenges does it face, how they can get into the space or who they can help in the space. So I am constantly on the lookout for good introductory material that clearly articulates these issues and highlights the work of the companies at the leading edge of this field. This article from Science,Mining microbes: Creating genomic tools to fight disease is one such resource I would recommend, read more here

Are Probiotics the Answer to Acne?
In a new study, researchers concluded that the skin microbiome, or bacterial balance of the skin, has more to do with acne development than a single type of bacteria. Propionibacterium acnes has long been the bacterial culprit of acne, but Dr. Huiying Li, an associate professor of molecular and medical pharmacology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), said that isn’t necessarily the case.
